quasi particle

quasi particle
quasi particle,
a unit particle or quantum, as of sound, light, or heat: »

Soviet scientists had the honor of introducing the first quasi particles, the phonons (sound quanta in a crystal lattice), and the concepts of two others: the exciton, a specially excited state of electrons in a crystal lattice; and the polaron, a conducting electron in an ionic lattice (Mikhail D. Millionshchikov).
